TRAME DI TRAVERTINO

THE PLAN

Trame di Travertino (Travertine’s plots), promoted by the Municipality of Acquasanta Terme in collaboration with the Central Italy Earthquake Committee – Coordination Table of the Tronto upper valley, supported by Confindustria, CGIL, CISL, UIL and hosted by the Terra Vettore APS Association (www.terravettore.it, coordinators: Pierluigi Giorgi, Patrizia Gagliardi, Giulia Menzietti) is a two-year project which intends to revive the territories hit by the earthquake in central Italy. A significant number of travertine quarries is present in the upper valley of the Tronto river; this stone becomes the material and the tool that the project uses to enhance the resources and potential of the tangible and intangible heritage of the area.

FIRST PHASE 2020

The first phase led to the reopening of the hiking route of the Valledacqua ring: an ancient path transformed into a suggestive itinerary of open-air travertine installations. The route of historical-naturalistic interest has been restored by the project called “Antiche Vie Mulattiere dell’Acquasantano” (Ancient Mule Paths of Acquasanta) and it crosses valuable attractions such as Castel di Luco and the Valledacqua Monastery.

In this scenario, along the initial portion of the itinerary, the Symposium Trame di Travertino 2020 placed several site-specific works made in travertine by local artists selected with an open call.

2021 EDITION

In the 2021 edition, this evocative dialogue between travertine, art and landscape was implemented with the addition of four interventions, made by different artists selected through a new call. In this second phase, the path has been made accessible to a wider audience, and more inclusive, allowing people with disabilities to enjoy the experience.

The cultural itinerary of Trame di Travertino, curated by the Terra Vettore Association, now offers the audience the opportunity to interact with a total of 12 travertine installations, on a path that reaches from Paggese to Castel di Luco. The path, certified by Officina dei Sensi, guarantees accessibility and safety for a sensory experience in an exclusive context.

Trame di Travertino is dedicated to the memory of
Pietro Tancredi

the travertine for the art works was supplied by the
Tancredi Cava of Acquasanta.
