The trail is located along the boundary line that separated the Papal State from the Kingdom of the Two Sicilies and it crosses the villages of Rocca di Montecalvo, San Gregorio, Fleno, Arola, Cervara, Ponte d’Arli .
Historically considered as a border land, this zone has been affected by a particular type of brigandage that left its mark on local legends.
San Gregorio , is the highest district of Acquasanta municipality, and it offers a breathtaking view to its visitors. This place is famous for having been Bandit Piccioni’s general headquarter. More recently, the village Ponte d’Arli (whose name comes from its travertine bridge that crosses the Tronto river) has been an important place for meeting and commercial exchange: its cattle fair drew visitors from the Marche and the Abruzzi regions.
